Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking Software Engineering Interns to support the IMEA and VAPO projects on site in Raleigh, NC. Our staff of recognized experts uses state-of-the-art software to integrate accredited engineering models that provide complete, comprehensive answers for many diverse weaponeering and vulnerability assessment (and protection) problems. We have expertise and provide engineering solutions in areas such as weapon penetration, cratering, blast effects, fragmentation, structural damage, human injury, weapons of mass destruction (WMD) agent release and dispersion, etc.
The selected candidate will develop, code, test, and debug new software or enhancements to existing software under direction from senior developers/engineers. Our development approach fosters communication and collaboration across multiple scientific disciplines, and provides all members of our teams opportunities to contribute creatively to our projects. The successful applicant must have skills in analysis and design of software components in an object-oriented environment.
Position Requirements:
- Undergraduate (at least sophomore standing) in computer science or related fields.
- Proficient with C++ or Java and object-oriented analysis & design (OOAD)
- Strong oral presentation and written communication skills
- Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
Position Preferences:
- Experience with C++
- Knowledge of and experience working in a Scrum and/or XP software development environment
- Experience developing Qt and/or MFC GUIs
- Experience using XML SDKs
- Experience in physics-based modeling, simulation, or distributed component technologies
