Systems Engineers - Scientific User Support at D. E. Shaw Research (New York, NY)

Systems Engineers are sought to join an ambitious, well-funded interdisciplinary research group based in New York City.  These hires will provide software and infrastructure support that is critical to our research effort and involves close collaboration with our world-class team of chemists, biologists, and computer scientists.  Responsibilities could include performing bug triage, installing and troubleshooting software, maintaining and improving documentation, and distributing software to third parties.  This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of transformative technology within a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

Successful candidates will be creative and independent problem solvers who have excellent communication skills and are extremely detail-oriented.  Ideal candidates will have a background or deep interest in scientific research.   They should be committed to providing superb user support, and have a demonstrated track record of improving past work environments.  This position requires familiarity with Linux/UNIX operating systems and Python or other Shell scripting.

D. E. Shaw Research is pursuing long-term projects aimed at achieving major scientific advances in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology using high-performance computation for molecular dynamics simulation.  We are developing multiple generations of the Anton special-purpose supercomputer, as well as a variety of simulation tools that run on commodity clusters and GPUs, with the aim of fundamentally transforming the process of drug discovery.
